Town Garden Open Saturday 31 August 2024
13 Arthur Street, Maryborough’s Rainforest Retreat
This property has an established rainforest that has been lovingly planted and maintained by the owner, Helene, over a ten year period. It was designed to protect the front yard from the hot northerly sun and give privacy and a noise buffer from busy Alice Street.
Helene runs a B&B from the residence and guests are free to wander the gardens and the adjoining parklands at the back of the home.
Helene is a keen permaculturalist and likens gardening to nuturing and caring for children (her other love). She says gardening is similar to cooking, another of her loves. Everything is composted everything and soil is made which is an ”Earth Lasagne”. This garden has many things growing from seeds and cuttings and has a worm farm, chooks, a herb garden, a four bay compost system and many flowering and fruiting trees.
Helene plants with the 4 “F” policy – if it is in the garden it must be fruiting, flowering, fragrant or fabulous.
The rainforest walk and many secluded spaces throughout this spacious property will be sure to enthral any keen gardener.
Everyone is welcome to explore this special garden during the Maryborough Open Gardens.
Entry fee of $5.00 each day per adult for entry into Town Gardens will be accepted at this garden. Entry for children under 16 years is free.
